Here I will list the names of the important characters
in the book. This will include Bone as well as others. I will also give a brief description of the character and how
they are connected to Chappie. In other words, the Cast of Rule of the Bone.
Bone/Chappie
Chappie is the main character of this story. He tells the tale
of his unfortunate but revealing past. About half way through the book Chappie changes his name and identity to Bone so he
can start a new life for himself. He is your main focus throughout the novel and the onwe you should pay attention to to understand
how he is anti-hero.
Sister
Rose/Froggy the Gremlin
Rose was a child Bone first meets
in the mall with a strange man named Buster Brown. Bone comes to realize that Rose is being used in this guy's pornagraphic
films. I know, right?!! It's disgusting!!. Bone takes her away from him in there second encounter with her. Rose has an impact
on Bone to the affect that he feels he should care for her until he can get her to her real home. As this comes to pass, Bone
realizes her mother sold her to Buster to begin with. Rose gives Bone the first ever feeling of being responsible for someone
besides himself.
I-Man
I-Man is a type of a father/teacher to Bone. Bone turns to him on more
than one occasion to help him out with his problems and issues. I-Man is a Jamaican. He practices the religion Rastafariasm.
He is an illegally in the United States and lives in a broken down school bus in Plattsburgh. He has his own garden and grows
his own Marijuana. He is a vegetarian and only eats his Ital Diet. He refers to god as Jah and tells Bone the answers he seeks
will come from Jah.
Adirondack Iron
Adirondack Iron was a biker gang that partially rented out half of
Russ' apartment near the Video Den. The gang consisted of thier leader Bruce: then there is Roundhouse, Joker, Packer and
Raoul. Due to events that happen in the book the leader Bruce ends up dead trying to save Bone who, was already out of harms
way. The Adirondack Iron is a real tough group that are really ignorant and controlling over the apartment. This evidently
causes problems for Russ.
Tip:
Here is a fun challenge. Try looking at Bone's story from a different angle and/or
character. It can be fun, but also may give an idea of how the other characters re reacting to the situation thatas going
on. You can even replace Bone with another character and try to imagine how they would be able to overcome Bone's obstacles.
